About Us
Ricky, the Dog of the Day
Name: Ricky
Age: Eleven years old
Gender: Male
Breed: Collie
Home: Atlanta, Georgia, USA

Ricky is my dog's name and he is eleven years old. He is totally sensitive to my feelings. He knows when I am upset. He always comes to my side and lay his head on my leg to remind me he loves me. Ricky enjoys going walking, Cheerios in the morning and his ears scratched. He loves all people (has never growled at anyone) but has a mortal enemy next door named Tooser, a dog who gets too close to his space at times. Ricky is a full-blooded Collie and is AKA Registered.

Ricky came through a cancer surgery this summer at the University of Georgia Vet school and is now doing great. He breaks out during the summer humidity and heat in Atlanta so I got him an old window unit air conditioner that still works and cut a hole in his dog house outside so he could stay cool. I put a rubber cover on the front door of the dog house so the air would stay in. He moves in there during the summer. Once it passes 90 degrees, he stays in it but hangs his nose just outside the door to keep a watch on things.

The story behind the air conditioned dog house is actually the Vet's suggestion. Collies are northland type dogs and the heat would make his skin break out in the heat down here. He would then chew on the spot until he formed a big hole in his hair... "hot spots." I was afraid to leave him inside my house during the day because of possible fire... A dog burned to death down the street from me in a house fire when the owners were gone and I never forgot that. Ricky is beautiful, but he is not just like Lassie: I am not sure he would save anyone unless they had Cheerios. I love him very much, though. I prayed to God one time ten years ago that I thought I might need an Angel to sort of hang around and watch over me. He sent me this almost pure white Collie who has been at my side ever since.
