About Us
Emily, the Dog of the Day
Name: Emily
Age: Three years old
Gender: Female Breed: Dog
Home: Marlton, New Jersey, USA

Emily is a three year old bundle of energy. As a volunteer at a local animal shelter, I developed a fondness for Emily from the start. When she first came to the shelter as a stray, she was about eight months old, skinny, with mange and a front elbow that had been badly broken and had healed on its own caused by either being hit with a forceful object or being hit by a car. The veterinarian said that the elbow had been too badly shattered to be reconstructed. She would always hold her front leg out stiffly when she sat and walked with a severe limp. People coming to the shelter would look at her and comment on how cute she was, but would say what a shame she has a deformed front leg. After about four months, it didn't look like Emily was going to find a home. I adopted her. From being abused, she was extremely scared of unfamiliar noises and especially people she didn't recognize. (She still disapproves of the vacuum cleaner.) She made fast friends with my other dog, a two-year-old Labrador Retriever, and follows her everywhere. Emily didn't know how to "play", but by watching our other dog she learned to fetch the tennis ball and play with other dog toys. She loves to play fetch so much now that when I get her leash to go for a walk, she runs around the house so she can get a tennis ball to take with us. We then go to the field to play fetch as part of our walk. She is a cheerful little girl who loves to give kisses. He leg is so strong now that the limp is not really noticeable, and she can run faster than her big sister. She is definitely part of the family now and I am glad that we found each other.
