About Us
Silver, the Dog of the Day
Name: Silver
Age: Deceased, Fourteen years old
Gender: Female Breed: Silky Terrier
Home: Rancho Mirage, California, USA

Silver came to live with us almost nine years ago, thanks to her ailing master and to our friend and "dog broker," Kelly. At our first meeting, after having been bounced from one home to another, we both knew within minutes that she had found her real mom and dad; it only took her a month to train us.

She knew who she was and what she wanted, but she wasn't cocky or obnoxious. She had a human-like sweetness and kindness about her that not only made everyone who knew her love her, but transformed many "cat people" to dog lovers. However, Silver did not know she was a dog. She actually preferred being around cats and ducks, but would reluctantly swap sniffs with her dog pals Mikey, Summer, Riley and Militia. Her favorite pastime was sitting in her back yard munching on a chewstick, often raising her head to watch the nearby golfers sink their puts.

Her job was to protect us, and that she did well...all nine pounds of her. No matter where we were in the house, she would position herself between us and the front door just to make sure the bad guys knew she was on duty. After having a stroke two months ago, she experienced other health problems and continued to decline. She literally died for about five minutes, only to come back to stand guard for yet another week before failing kidneys and lungs sent her to doggie heaven. We know she is still on duty, though, because we feel her presence everywhere. And we are so grateful to this little "person" for the big impact she made on so many lives and for the wonderful memories that remain.
