Lady
was absolutely the best dog you could have ever asked for! We got
Lady from a local animal rescue in April of 1993. It was love at first
sight!! She was a stray and was estimated between the ages of 6-9
months old. Lady was given to the rescue because, in the words of the
pounds, she was "too nice to put to sleep." Lady had already had pups,
so she had been through a lot in her short life span. From day one, no
one in my family had regret getting her. She has always lived up to
her name, as she has always been the perfect lady.
She was the perfect guardian to me when I was home from being at the
hospital as well. I don't remember a single moment when Lady wasn't at
my side. She was always so loving, sociable, and a favorite among
everyone! My girl's favorite pastime was chasing the running water
hose. She always got so dirty and muddy, but it was the best thing to
her! She also loved laying on the couch with me and watching TV or
just taking a nap. As you can plainly see... she was quite the teddy
bear! She was the sweetest dog in the world and was always so loving
towards the foster dogs we had in our home. Lady was, well...the best
friend anyone could have ever had.
Illness tore Lady away from me, without warning, on October 31, 2000.
She left us as quickly as she came to us. A few days prior to her
death, Lady was put on medication by the vet. She still wasn't doing
well and was slowing down more and more. I knew my girl was sick as
she wouldn't even give me kisses. That Tuesday (Halloween), Lady was
going to visit the vet for a few days while they observed her and took
blood tests, but my parents took her after I got home from school. She
was laying on her bed and I laid next to her. Lady kissed my face all
over... she hadn't done that in days. Then, my parents took her. My
human best friend took me out to help me get my mind off her being
away for a few days. Then, at 4:00 pm or so, I started to cry while
listening to my favorite song and I didn't quite understand why. Soon
after, my friend took me home, where my 23-year-old brother awaited.
His face was red and we went in the TV room and told me Lady died.
My parents had been waiting with Lady in the lobby for the vet to come
out from a procedure. While they were waiting, Lady laid down. My
parents kept asking what was going on to the vet tech. After a brief
moment, Lady never opened her eyes or breathed again. I went and saw
her afterwards and just cried on her... my best friend was gone
forever. Lady had had very undetected tumors in her lungs that had
ruptured, killing her almost instantly.
I will love her and miss her forever. I know she is in a better place
now and no longer in pain.
