Shantou
is a very special dog. We have had her for ten years. She is
eleven years old and Sharpei's life expectancy is only seven years!
She is blind in one eye and deaf, though not totally deaf, she can
hear when you say her name loudly. Once in a while she will bump into
things, but other than that she can see just fine. She still shows her
love and affection for our family as well as ever. She loves to dig in
sand and play in water. The sand also includes the dirt in the garden!
Her name comes from a city in China. She can sit, shake, and lay down
- but only does those for a treat. She runs to the door and starts
scratching it when she hears us say "want to go to the
cottage." She also scratches our leg when she wants to be pet.
Shantou is a very special part of our family.
