Jingo
is a seven month old Rotweiller-Lab cross that I adopted from
the Humane Society three months ago. When I saw him in his pen, he
didn't bark or whine - he just stood with both paws in his water dish
looking curious and happy. Which is ironic, seeing he's the biggest
suck in the world and is hates getting wet to the point that he'll
jump up on me when it's raining so that he can get under the umbrella.
He weighs 70 pounds right now, and he's yet to figure out how big he
is or how everything works yet, so he's always tripping over his paws
or sliding across the floors like the Cottonelle puppy - only with a
much bigger crash at the end. He has a habit of forgetting all his
other tricks when a new one comes along, and has a talent for laying
down exactly in the way of whatever you're doing (I figure everyone
needs a job, and Jingo's is to be in the way. He's very, very good at
it). He's still teething, and has thus far used the TV remote control,
a curtain, a door frame, and a whole brick as chew toys. In short,
he's a big clown. And while it may sound like he's poorly behaved,
that's not the case at all: he walked on lead perfectly from day one;
he sits, lays down, and rolls over perfectly; and he's replaced his
puppy need to gnaw on everything with a healthy Kong chew toy
obsession. Jingo's a constant source of fun, amusement, and love for
everyone who meets him and scratches his little beard.
