Hi,
my name is Little Guy, I'm a Miniature Schnauzer and a Pet Therapy
Dog. Since being certified as a Pet Therapy Dog in Jan. 2001, I have
made 70 visits to nursing/retirement homes and to hospitals. I have
received my Therapy Dog International Working Title and am on my way
to complete another 100 visits for my second ribbon. By just being
there, I have seen a woman in a coma open her eyes when her daughter
rubbed her hand on my fur, something she had not done for her family.
I have heard my mom talk to a man who constantly mumbled when we
visited, but lately, after petting me and feeding me treats for my
tricks, he is now talking understandably with mom. Just yesterday, we
visited a lady we guessed to be in her 90s and had her eyes squeezed
tightly shut. Her daughter asked her to open her eyes and look at me.
My mom patted her knee and asked if she would like to look at me, she
opened one eye half way, saw me smiling at her, opened it all the way,
then opened her other eye and a huge grin spread across her face.
That made my day as well as my moms, whom I'd do anything for. I know
that I'm special as my mom tells me on our visits if I can reach one
individual who hasn't responded to anyone, that reaction - whether it
be words, a smile or grin is absolutely priceless!!!
