Jana
was born June 5, 2001. She weighed 20 pounds when she was adopted at two
months old and when we had her picture taken in October she weighed 80
pounds and was five months old. Jana likes her chew toys and loves to play
with her house cats, Precious and Madison. Jana is the sweetest
companion I have ever had. She does not realize that she is a "d-o-g."
She believes she is "people." Jana is eight months old, 85 pounds and very
tall. In the mornings just a few minutes before the alarm should go off
she will come lay her head on my pillow and quietly look at me until I
open my eyes but once she sees I am awake then she is full of life and
prances all over the room and "talks" to me. She has a basket full of
squeaky toys and she is very generous with them. She likes to chew on
her toys until they are sloppy wet and then she likes to put them in my
lap as though she is giving me a special gift.
Jana is extremely affectionate as are most Greater Swiss Mountain Dogs.
In spite of their large size, they make wonderful house dogs and
although it has been said that Swissies can be difficult to house break,
Jana was very easy to train. She is typical of her breed in that she
learns everything very quickly and is eager to please. She would rather
be with her humans than other dogs although she is very accepting of
other dogs, too.
