Mackenzie
is a playful and
very active dog. At age one, though, she became blind. We do not really
know why, but we think it might be bad breeding or that her mother and
father were too closely related. Mackenzie knows a few tricks. First, I
say "Sit." Then, I say, "Give me your paw," or "Wave," or even more
likely: "Shake." She then does those two things. Then I tell her to lie
down. Next, I point a finger at her and make a gun-shot sound. She then
rolls over onto her side. Then I say,"All right Mackenzie," quiet enough
so she could not hear me. Then I say it again, in the same tone. Next I
say, "Mackenzie. If you don't get up by the count of three, I am going
to bury you. One, Two, Three!" And exactly when I say three, she gets up
as quick as a bullet. Mackenzie loves kids and is very affectionate with
me and my Family. Her favorite games are fetch and tag. We have a huge
back yard for my two dogs. Her favorite treats are Beggin' Strips. She is
such a piggy!
She sleeps on the floor of my room while Muffin, my
Tibetan terrier, sleeps on my bed. Either she curls up next to me, or
she sleeps at the foot. She is more likely to sit at the foot, because
that is the Muffin I know. Anyway, enough about Muffin, and back to the
star! Mackenzie has a hobby, like all the other dogs. She loves doing
agility. Even though she can not go to real agility, I set a course up
in my back yard! She plays and does it every day. Her personality did not
change when she became blind, but she sometimes does not think she can
do the things she used to. As far as swimming goes, I think that will be
a hobby that goes on forever with her! She can still dive in straight
from the edge, and isn't even close to almost drowning in the deep end
again. When I was five, (three years ago) I brought her into the pool
early in the morning, before my parents were awake. She came over to the
deep end, and her hind end sank! since she was my little tug-of-war
champion back then, I threw her a noodle. She grasped it with her teeth,
and I pulled her to safety on the deep end step. She climbed out
gratefully. I will never forget that look on her face! I remember I did
not tell my parents until I was six or seven. They were really mad!
Don't tell any of my other pets, but Mackenzie is my favorite! She is my
best friend, and always will be. She surely is the dog for me!
