We
adopted Nikki from a boxer rescue organization about four years ago.
She was very sick and malnourished because she was found wandering the
streets of Detroit. We didn't know it at the time, but Nikki was
pregnant. She was only ten months old. After she had lived with us for
about two weeks, she had six puppies. They were all very healthy, unlike
poor Nikki. She was giving all of the nutrients to them and she didn't
start getting healthy or gaining weight until they were done nursing.
She was a very good mom.
After the puppies had gone to good homes, Nikki could start living her
life they way a puppy her age should. She loved to run and play. She
also barked for the fist time about a week after her babies were
gone. Nikki has a tendency to get sick now and we are constantly taking
her in to the vet. She takes medication daily. She is such a sweet dog,
and I think she is grateful that we took her in.
These days, Nikki still loves to run, it's her favorite thing to do.
However, it hurts her because she has mild hip dysplasia and her back
left leg is deteriorating. I love her more than there are stars in the
sky. We have a special bond that will never be broken. Her spirit will
never be broken by any illness or misfortune. I love this dog.
