Harley
came to us in 1996. He was left at the ASPCA because his owner
was being transferred overseas and couldn't take a dog. He was or so
they told us about a year old at the time. We had been looking for a
small dog since our dog died earlier that year and had put in many
requests to the adoption agencies. Harley's fur was so overgrown that
we had no idea what he was. They told us he was a mix of poodle and
terrier. When we took him to the groomer for the first time we thought
they gave us the wrong dog back. This is when we found out that he was
indeed a poodle. We didn't think he should have the "show poodle" cut
as he is suited more to a mongrel rather than a pedigree. We therefore
and since have him shaved all the way down. This makes him look more
like a lamb not a dog.
In no time at all Harley was the master of the house, or so he
thought. He doesn't like to sleep alone, he doesn't care who he is
sleeping with, anybody will do. He has to be the center of attention at
all times and when he is ignored he will do something just like a kid
and then he will get in trouble and then we are now only paying
attention to him. When you yell at him he'll growl at you and you
better not point your finger at him!
Every person that comes in the house lands up with having him in their
lap. He'll make that loving face and snuggle up real close and
everybody just thinks he is the cutest dog ever. He is excellent at
other people's houses and is welcomed everywhere He is only bad in his
own house. He will not let his brother [Chevi the cat] even be talked
to unless he is in front hamming it up.
Harley does not like the outside world. He is afraid of all the bugs
and doesn't like to get his feet wet. He does not like other dogs and
prefers to hang around cats. He loves to have his picture taken, loves
to ride and sleep in the car. He prefers Florida in the winter, Jersey
in the summer. Harley can do all sorts of tricks He is a very smart
dog. He loves to swim in the pool but won't go near the ocean. When
given a treat he doesn't like, he will often bury it in the sofa.
Harley sends everyone his love for the holidays and hopes Santa will
fill all the stockings everybody hangs up.
