Meet
Phoebe, my Queensland Heeler/German Shepherd mix. She is about two
years old, and weighs a little over 40 pounds. We rescued her from the
SPCA last June, and she was instantly a wonderful addition to our
family. She is so sweet, yet full of spunk, and capable of conveying a
huge range of emotions - just look at those eyes! She has a really
interesting look. Short, coarse hair, size, and facial markings of a
Queensland Heeler, yet the head shape and body markings more like a
German Shepherd. She is very active, and loves to play with her toys
and our other dog, an Aussie/Lab mix named Ursula.
One trip to the doggy park was all it took to see that she is a born
herder. She saw a big black Lab chasing a ball, and she outran him and
cut him off before he could get there. She now routinely herds the Labs
and Golden Retrievers. She loves to please, and is the star of her
obedience class.
If you are looking for a dog, please go to your local SPCA or animal
shelter. You might not find AKC dogs there, but you will find fantastic
dogs that will give you and your family love and appreciation for
rescuing them. Both my dogs are rescue dogs, and I can't imagine our
household without them.
