Cujo
is a very special dog. For only being six she has had some serious
health problem but has pulled through it all. Her most recent happened
while I was away on vacation and my mom was caring for her. My mom came
home from work and Cujo couldn't stand or walk. The vet was called and
Cujo taken there. The vet said Cujo had to stay so that they could run
some tests, but that she could be visited the next day in the afternoon.
The next day came and Cujo had a room full of visitors. My entire family
showed up to visit with her. The staff at the animal hospital said they
never have seen so many visitors. My brother even asked if he could take
her home for the night (IV and all) and he would bring her back in the
morning.
Cujo spent a week in the animal hospital regaining her ability to stand
and walk. She spent another two months seeing specialists and doing
exercises to keep her legs strong. She has recovered remarkably with
minor nerve damage to her front right leg. But that hasn't gotten in her
way. She may limp around now and then but she still can dart off like a
bullet if a squirrel crosses her path. And for those days that she
would rather ride than walk, I proudly tote her around in her pet pocket.
