About Us
Pancake, the Dog of the Day
Name: Pancake
Age: Deceased, Four years old
Gender: Female Breed: Terrier mix
Home: Athens, Georgia, USA

Pancake was my first born, our first baby. We adopted her from the local shelter two years ago. My husband describes her as the "ambassador dog," since she was so amazing that she convinced several people who did not like animals that they can be wonderful to have around. She made many people even go to the shelter to adopt a dog of their own!

She had so many wonderful characteristics. She was very human-like. We would take her to the dog park, and she would not play with the other dogs. There was a fence there that the dog owners would sit on while their dogs were playing together, and Pancake would always sit on the fence with us. She was absolutely hilarious! She would do anything to get brushed, and that's actually how we got her to get exercise: one of us would be at the top of the stairs and the other at the bottom, both of us armed with brushes. She would run from the top to the bottom just to get brushed by the both of us! We even nicknamed her our "sprinkler dog" because whenever someone would scratch the base of her tail or brush her, she would rotate her head from side to side flicking her tongue in and out!

We adopted our first puppy ever after having Pancake for several months. Pancake taught Mina to be just like her - well-mannered, talkative, and she plays the same way (growls like a huge dog and grabs other dogs' hind legs). Her best trick also takes after Pancake: bang. Pancake was named so because she always flips over onto her back, like a pancake.

Pancake passed away July 11, 2005, two days after our wedding. She died in a surgical complication. It was possibly the worst day of our lives. I just never got that perfect picture that showed just how wonderful she was, and now I never will.

We miss her so much. Life will never be the same without my baby girl.
