Holidays from Dante - my Beagle who allows his sister Peggy, my
husband and myself to live with him in our small but humble home in San
Diego, CA. Dante is our resident chow hound and when it's time to eat,
which seems like every 20 minutes, no one rests until Sir Dante receives
a morsel! Once upon a time, Sir Dante topped out to a whopping 50 pounds.
but, after some "creative rearranging of his meals," he now weighs in at
a healthy 38 pounds! He has gotten a little crotchety in his old age,
barely moving from his upside down position on the couch to bark "You
kids get off my lawn" as the neighbor children walk by. However, you
just never know when he will get his second wind and steal a pair of
socks taunting us to chase him.
He also likes to tease his sister by getting as close as he can to her
face (the whole "I'm not touching you" game) until she pounces on him
and they tear off to do laps around the yard. He may be in his "golden
years" but he's still got it! He provides us with lots of laughter and
even more love (sometimes literally bathing us in slobbery kisses with
his arms around our necks). Most recently, he lay by my side every
waking and sleeping moment to comfort me as I grieved for a lost
pregnancy. He kissed my tears away and let me caress his velvety ears
for comfort. He and his sister are our Dogs of the Day every day and we
are blessed to have them in our lives.
