Peyton,
or "Pe-Pe" as our toddler calls her, joined our family on
Superbowl Sunday 2005. Our puppy, Sasha is so full of energy she needed
a friend so we did what any normal dog owner would do-we got our dog a
dog! Peyton came from a rescue group after her family could no longer
care for her. One look into her beautiful but sad blue and brown eyes
and we couldn't say no. When she joined our family she needed a little
time to understand that she would not go hungry and now she regularly
enjoys "take out"! She takes her food out of the kitchen one mouthful
at a time to be enjoyed in our living room. She is loyal, loving and
protective and not afraid to put younger, I-think-I'm-alpha-dog-sister
in her place with a snarl now and then or one of her infamous "wookie"
howls. She is more than happy to help round up the family and keep
Sasha out from underfoot when we are trying to get in and out of the
house. Peyton is very intelligent as well. We sing "march, march" at
nap time and bedtime as we march our kids upstairs and she happily jumps
up to go to her crate too! We now use this command to get her and Sasha
both in their crates. Her favorite activities include sunbathing,
swimming, going for a run 'round at the dog park, serving as a pillow or
horse for our kids and imitating Superman. When not sprawled out as far
as she can stretch, she will sit oh so daintily with her paws crossed.
She is mommy's sweetheart, no matter how many toys she destroys and we
are glad we gave her the second chance every dog deserves!
