My
pet's name is Chucky (short for Chocolate Chip). Chucky is so
special. He is very sweet and patient with other dogs, known or
unknown, but squirrels and ducks drive him crazy. We use to have a
Golden Retriever, Rusty, who died 2 years ago. Rusty use to escape from
the yard and when Chucky saw him, he would come in the house to tell me.
From a young age he learned how to open doors, both, with handles or
knobs. Nothing will stop Chucky to go out. He is very attached to me.
In the morning when I grab my purse to go to work, he knows that it's
time to go to his "special place" without hesitation and with a very sad
face. But around 5:30, he will sit in front of the window to wait for
me. The minute he hears the car coming, he goes to the garage (through
his doggy door) and waits for that garage door to open to go and greet
me at the car. Sometimes my son's wife picks him up and takes him to
their home to stay while I come back to work. She says that at 5:30 PM
sharp, he will sit in front of the window to wait for me. Not a minute
before, not a minute after. Because of his hip problems and age,
recently, we built a step for him to be able to climb into my bed since
he sleeps with me. He is so happy and the thing is that he knows exactly
that the left side of the bed is his side and won't ever lay down on the
right. He also loves the memory foam mattress that I bought recently
for the both of us. He also knows the time of his medication and will
sit in front of the kitchen cabinet where the medicines are located
until I give it to him. If I forget, he will "tell" me and make me
follow him to the kitchen where he will sit facing the cabinet and
looking up.
Chucky is like a son, even my adult children are a little jealous of
him. I hope that he will last many, many years. I know that the moment
will come when he is not around us anymore, until then, I will cherish
his companionship and all the great and happy moments that we have lived
together.
