My
pet is April Honey Bear. I found her on the street nine years ago in
Phoenix, Arizona. Three days after I found her, I found the owner.
With tears in my eyes I took her back to owner (who only lived on the
next block) and after I handed her over, the owner said that I could
keep her. I reached my hands out and April put her paws around my neck
(scratching me) as if to say, "Mommy take me home." The owner didn't
have a toy or leash for her, no bowls. She said she ate people food or
cat food and didn't get along with the other dogs they had.
I had three dogs in my house at the time and April got along with all of
them. She needed half her teeth pulled right away and a hysterectomy.
The owner said she had two litters and couldn't have anymore. It was
not that the she didn't get along with other dogs that her owner didn't
want her, it was the fact that she could not have any more babies to
sell and needed to much work done on her teeth and a hysterectomy!
She knew that I had an older maltese that was sick and she would be
careful to walk around her or jump high over her not to bother her. She
barked as soon as she needed to go outside. When I would take her to the
dog park she would great all the people and dogs that came into the
park. So clearly she was not a problem with other dogs! Her sister is
a part lab/ridgeback who will give her a ride on her back. If I put her
sister in the big dog side, she would walk along the gate between them
until I would bring her sister into the small dog park with her. They
take care of each other.
April is totally blind now, has no teeth at all and can't hear. She
barks for food, to go outside and to find me. She bangs into things as
she still can't get used to being blind. This poor little thing has
been so through so much in her life that she deserves to be "Pet of the
Day"! Really, she deserves to be Dog of a Lifetime; but since this
can't be done on your site, I am sure that she would love to be Dog of the Day.
