Duke, the Dog of the Day
Name: Duke
Age: Five and a half years old
Gender: Male Breed: Boxer
Home: Weeki Wachee, Florida, USA

Hey all, you can call me Duke, sometimes I come, sometimes I won't. More than likely I won't. I only listen to Mommy. She got me when I was six weeks, about six pounds. She was driving down the road and saw a sign, boxer puppies for sale. She was just going to "stop and look" she told her son. Once she saw me she just knew she had to have me. I was one of seven but I was the first one she picked up. She took me home that day and boy was she lucky. I have been a wonderful boy. I never chew things I am not suppose to, I only had one accident and that was her fault for not getting me out on time after waking up ... babies go a lot ya know. Before I knew it, I had her trained to give me a "cookie" every time I put my butt on the floor, gave her one of my front feet, lay on my belly, or barked. It was great. I also pleased her by learning a few hand signals ... anything to get more cookies. I will even sit with that cookie on my nose and look silly just to see her face when I catch it.

I am very lucky, my Mommy works at home so I spend every day with her. I used to ride with her to and from work every day for deliveries and I was even allowed to sleep in bed with her. Then she met daddy. He changed the rules. He said I was a dog...and should sleep on the floor, have you ever heard such nonsense? And I was not allowed to sit in the front seat any more because I got hair all over-jeeze. But I got a girlfriend out of it all. Her name is Champ. She is a boxer too. So I guess I gave up one good thing for another. Now I live at home with Mommy, Daddy, three human brothers, my girlfriend Champ, and a ferret named Peek-A-Boo.

I am very vocal. I whine a lot, growl and make funny noises. I bark a lot too which drives my Daddy nuts. I even make a snorting sound at night when I am made to go out to potty before bed. Oh and I love to sing when my Daddy plays his guitar or someone plays with the ringer on the phone. I will even sing on command (sometimes).

Mommy tries not to have a favorite but I can see in the way she looks at me that there will never be another dog that fills her heart the way I do. My Daddy said he dreads the day something happens to me because she will be a basket case. I have Rocky Mountain Spotted fever after getting bit by a tick. A year after that I developed arthritis in my hips. I can run around with the best of them but I will pay later that evening and sometimes into the next day. I have to take an medicine to help the pain and stiffness. I also get attacks when the disease flares up, I shake like I am cold and cannot sit still, my Mommy gets antibiotics and makes me all better. She will even lay on the floor with me to help me relax. I have had a lot of allergy problems also, being a white boxer. I am allergic to bees and ants. I swell up with hives all over my and even my inner eyelids will sometimes pop out, I have to get shots. I know that I am as lucky to be with her as she is to be with me...most people would have passed me off to someone else because of these problems but not my Mommy...she just has too much love.

I hope that you enjoyed hearing about me and my great life. I know I am special because of the way my Family makes me feel. God Bless everyone and all the animals in the world ... If only their home was half as good as mine they'd be doing all right.
