Pappy
is a three year old Corgi/Terrier mix that we adopted in January of
this year. Our other dog Romie is getting up there in age and we wanted
to find him a companion that would suit him. Pappy won our hearts by
being as nonchalant as possible when we came to visit him at the Animal
Shelter in Salinas, California. As all the other dogs were barking and
jumping to get our attention, Pappy was just laying peacefully on his
blanket and looking at us.
I crouched down and held out my hand for him to sniff. He got up,
casually walked over, sniffed my hand twice and went back over to his
blanket and sat down.
After we brought him home it became apparent that he had been abused by
his last owner. He would cringe down and shy away whenever you moved
your hands rapidly and he was very afraid of my husband at first because
he has a naturally loud, booming voice.
Gradually, with time and lots of love, he came to trust us and he has
been a wonderful addition to our family. He has put some pep back in
our older dogs step and brought us countless smiles with his ability to
turn cat-like at the drop of a hat. He is now 100% love and lets me
know how happy he is every morning with his never-ending kisses when I
wake up.
