This
handsome, buff little guy's name is Meiko and he is eleven years
old! He still has the youthful shine in his eyes of a young
puppy! He's never had a girl-friend, but has a crush on Ross Matthew's
dog, Louise!
Meiko truly has no bad sides to him except the fact that he slows us down
whenever we take him out. We can't seem to get from point A to point B
without someone stopping us and asking us what kind of ''puppy'' he is!
Once, after being stopped an incredible amount of times, my husband got
tired of telling everyone that he was a cross between a Maltese and a
Pomeranian, so he decided to tell people that he was a small black
wolf...and they believed him! We laughed for quite a while over that one.
People are always sooooo shocked when we tell them his age. Their response
is always...''oh my gosh...I though he was a puppy''. I actually had a
delivery man tell me that he was going to be a very big dog when he grew
up just from looking at the size of his paws! His face turned a little red
when I told him his age. We've had people tell us they thought he was
anything from a baby bear to a baby goat! Don't see it myself, but then
again, I don't really see a little dog when I look at him either...looks
more human to me (well, more handsome than any human I've met, but still
...)
Meiko loves going for drives in the car ... unfortunately ... with
anyone! We've had him come home in the mail truck a few times and once
in the back of an SPCA truck. (he was actually enjoying himself in the
back with all the dogs!) That was when he was just a young dog though,
and still brave enough to crawl under the fence on occasion and go for a
little walk. Bravery is not really his strong suit....he once barked
for about half an hour in the back yard at an unusually large leaf that
fell from our maple tree!
Meiko is starting to slow down now and that's okay ... because so am I.
His sister, Whitney, got married this summer and his brother, Wesley, is
off to university so now it's just him and I. He no longer goes down the
stairs in the morning on his own...his little legs are a little achy so
we gladly carry him down. He's been my little ''constant'' in a world
of inconsistencies. He's made me laugh, made me calm down, been my
friend and nuzzled into my heart deeper than I ever though any little
animal ever could...and I love animals! He's a gift to me that I will
always always cherish and I am blessed to have him!
