Lady, the Dog of the Day
Name: Lady
Age: Fourteen years old
Gender: Female Breed: Shetland Sheepdog
Home: Cookeville, Tennessee, USA

   Hello there!

My name is Lady and I am fourteen years old. (I was a bit younger in this picture). I love Christmas. My pets (people) always got me a present, but now that I am older I get a hard-boiled egg wrapped up in Christmas paper instead. It is my very favorite and I get so excited that I just tremble thinking about it. I've gotten little bits of egg on Sunday morning nearly my whole life. I love Sundays, too!

I was a Christmas present to the girls when they were seven and nine years old. Now one of them is married, but she still comes home to see me. I have had a wonderful life and they say I'm a bit spoiled. I prefer to think I have my people "well trained." I've had a busy life because I gave myself jobs such as barking at the oven, the can opener, the ironing board, (other household appliances), and following Mom around and making sure everyone petted me as soon as they came in the door. My people didn't know much about Shelties when they got me, but they soon learned that Shelties are a "talkative" breed, and easy to communicate with.

From Mom: Lady is the sweetest, smartest dog ever. She learns things in just one try usually. I could tell stories all day about her and her cute antics. When she was younger she used to "herd" my daughters through the house and try to keep them in line. She even lost one of her baby teeth in the leg of my daughter's blue jeans, while doing this "job."

Lady has had to be on thyroid medicine most of her life, and she is such a good dog that she will even do tricks to get her daily pill! She has enriched our lives, been a pleasure and entertainment every day, and she gets under the Christmas tree just like this every year. It is as if she knows she was a Christmas present originally. My daughters say she was definitely the best present they ever received!
