All
of the ladies love Regis Philbhund. He's charming, funny, lovable and
brilliant, but I may be prejudiced. His adopted doggy sisters, Kelly and
Lola, think he's pretty special too. He's the man!
Regis loves his ball more than anything else, except for me and his daddy.
But it has to be a blue racquetball, no other color or type of ball will
do. In his advancing years he's content to occasionally bring us the ball
and play fetch for a little while. But when he was younger he was like the
terrier in the Eddie Murphy version of Dr. Doolittle... "Throw the ball,
throw the ball, throw the ball." Constantly. His favorite thing to do was
throw it into things - the pool, a potted plant, a water bucket, etc., and
make us get it out for him. Once I was doing some painting and had a
bucket of paint of the floor. You guessed it; he dropped the ball in the
paint. When I was preparing his meals at the kitchen island, he would jump
up and down with the ball in his mouth and then spit it out and actually
get it in his food bowl. A regular Michael Jordan, "he shoots he scores!"
Regis is very affectionate with the ladies, but men are not allowed to
cuddle with him, not even his daddy. He's too cool for that. But when my
lady friends visit he won't leave them alone until they've bent down and
let him kiss them... on the lips. He flirts shamelessly with them and they
think he's the greatest. So do I.
We named his Regis when we got him as a puppy. Our other dogs were rescues
that we got in 2003 and their names were actually Kelly and Lola when we
got them. It's purely coincidence (or fate) that they had the same names
as the human Regis' co-host and her daughter. There's nothing better than
a rescue dog!
Our whole family, human and canine, would like to wish everyone a very
happy holiday season!
