My
pet's name is Manola, and she's a short hair Saint Bernard female dog; she
lives in Mexico City, Mexico, and what makes her so special, is her wonderful
character, very sweet and attentive to human voices, her favorite is James
Joyce's "Ulysses," read by Tim Norton and other artists.
Besides her good taste for human voices, she's very friendly, warm and
passionate. When she meets one of her peers, she never growls or has an
aggressive attitude, she gets all excited: swinging her tail, she goes
directly to greet her fellow dog. Even though she is curious about other
animals - and friendly as well - horses or lambs are not her cup of tea, she
definitively barks at them, either in her territory or out of it. However,
inside her home or territory, her attitude towards two-legged animals, like
myself, is warm and passionate, always ready to be cuddled, and she is
absolutely convinced that she is as tiny her Chihuaheño pal, Pipo, - who
is even smaller than her cat brother, Pirri - so whenever is possible she
wants to be hugged and kissed.
On the contrary, everything going on on the other side of the fence is a
suspicious object to be barked at, and aggressiveness or protectiveness
arises, she looks like a real tough guardian, the hair on her back springs
up like a mad cat, but she has never bitten anyone. When she is with either of
her parents - my husband and my self-, she usually is docile and sweet, a
perfect daddy/mom's girl! At the end of the day, or whenever she feels tired,
she loves to lie on her bed in her parents' room, or just lie on the
comfortable spot, which can be the back seat of the car when she goes away to
her country home, or the sunny terrace, the TV sofa - by invitation only - or
just any floor carpet. Almost, immediately she goes to sleep and usually
snores like a singing frog!
If there's a dinner party at home she is always the first to welcome guests
and stays on and on hearing the conversation, attentive to the different
and new voices that dwell her space and fill her heart, and never asks for
food!
Her favorite game, besides running and playing with other dogs, is to get her
piece of rope and munch it, until I can grab it again!
What else can I say, we dearly love her and she is God's gift for us!!!
