My
Pomeranian's name is Suzie. Suzie is a very special dog (although she
is getting along in years) because she has always been affectionate and
dedicated. My dad rescued her at age six from a family that mistreated her,
kicking her and letting her eat potato chips. Over the years Suzie has
become very attached to my dad. She follows him everywhere, sleeping next
to him, walking around with him, and every time he leaves the house, she
runs around sniffing and trying to figure out where it is he's gone. She
sniffs at all the doors, and by now a large rust stain has developed on
our front door, right where she sits and misses him.
Suzie has won over all of our hearts. When I was a child, my mom said
specifically, "no animals!" We had to make do with some guppies, but I
always wanted a dog. Then, one day, when I was age six (the same age as
Suzie), my dad was picking me up from school and when I got in the car I
saw this white fluffy thing! We came home and I threatened my mom that I
wouldn't do my homework ever again, and my brother would never practice
violin ever again, if we couldn't keep her. We got to keep her, and
although at her old age she usually spends a lot of time sleeping, and
even though she has arthritis in her knees and sometimes can't walk far,
when my dad leaves there she is, right at the door, waiting for him to
come back.
Suzie can teach a lot of us a lot about how to love.
