This
is Ivy, my beautiful Shiba Inu! I adopted Ivy six years ago from the
Hinsdale Humane Society. The shelter I got her from named her Ivy and I kept
the name - it seemed to suit her and she responded to it very well!
I had just recently bought a new townhome and I knew the first thing I wanted
to do was adopt a shelter dog. My brother and his family have a Shiba and I
fell in love with the breed. When I was looking I checked the website and
there was Ivy. It was love at first sight! I immediately went to the shelter
that evening but another family had put her on hold and I couldn't get to meet
her. I was told that if the other family didn't come back within 24 hours
then I could come back and see her. I called the next day and lucky for me
the family did not come back. I immediately went to the shelter to meet her.
She was very shy and standoffish at first but I knew I wanted to take her home
with me. Within a few minutes she climbed into my lap - I think she knew she
had found her forever home. We've been together ever since!
Ivy is a wonderful, funny and loving dog. She loves all people and will greet
anybody happily when we are on our daily walks. She especially loves kids,
she will sit nicely next to them and let her them pet to their hearts content.
She doesn't really like other dogs all that much. She tolerates them at best.
She will allow them to sniff but if they get too jumpy then she gives them
the lip and turns her back to them and sits on the sidewalk waiting for us to
continue our walk. Shibas are very cat-like and Ivy is no exception. She's
not your typical lap dog but she does like to sleep on the bed with me and has
to always be touching me! She doesn't do very many tricks other than sit up
and give paw. She's very stubborn and does things on her own terms! The only
dog that Ivy will occasionally play with is her cousin, Maya, a border
collie. Maya is three years old and acts like toddler!! She will walk up
to Ivy and keep poking her with her paw until Ivy decides that she wants to
play. If she doesn't Ivy will give her the lip but that doesn't stop Maya!
Ivy has another cousin, Snowy, a 15 year old Shiba Inu who Ivy looks very much
like. Snowy is slowing down and doesn't like to play that much which suits
Ivy just fine! Ivy especially loves her Grandma and her Auntie Linda and
Uncle Jim!! Ivy is my best friend and adopting her was the best thing that
every happened to me! I can't imagine my life without her in it!!
I hope you think she's as special as I do!!
