Gracie
was a surprise addition to our family. She was left with us at 10 weeks
old on the day her owner relocated to another state. She spent her first day
at my office curled up sleeping on my arm while I tried to work. When she came
home, she immediately thought our full size greyhound was her new best friend
and the cats were moving toys to chase around the house. She truly was like
having a human baby with the late night crying, trips outside, and getting her
to go back to sleep.
I always thought that I would never be "one of those people" who would #1 -
have a toy dog or #2 - dress their dogs but I have become one. Gracie does not
tolerate cooler temperatures so I am constantly looking for a sweater or coat which
has grown into Halloween costumes, shirts or fancy collars... I do, however, draw
the line at painted toe nails. She is my child.
Gracie has moved in to our family and become my little girl who never ceases
to amuse us with her antics. She has taken complete ownership of the house,
and more importantly, the bed. She has no problem pushing us out when she
feels like stretching, making us move to accommodate her, or getting in our
face at two in the morning to go out. She loves playing fetch or chasing her
latest squeaker toy and the sticker that says an IG can get to the gate in 2.8
seconds isn't lying. Gracie is extremely fast and has endless energy when she
is playing. She has a terrific playful personality and thinks she is bigger
than she is. She honestly thinks she is intimidating when she growls at
someone who knocks on our door and is protecting us. Both she and my adopted
racing greyhound, Piper, stand on the chair at the window waiting for us to
come in. I can't even begin to tell you how nice it feels to have them in the
window and racing to the door to greet me when I come home from a long day.
They are true gems.
