Cheza
was purchased as a puppy from a reputable breeder by a family in West
Virginia. She had hoped she would be a show dog but she didn't have the
personality or drive for it. So, they put her in the backyard and got another
Aussie to show. Two years later, they opted to find a new home for their
outside dog; who, by that time had no social skills, no formal training, did
not know how to be inside, and was scared of the families small children. I
answered their ad and drove from Delaware (where I was living at the time) to
West Virginia to pick her up. It took her weeks before she stopped shaking and
would come near me. It took me months to get her used to being an inside dog
and then to trust me.
A year and a half later, this little girl has been through a lot and is still
smiling. She trusts me and my family fully and is very well behaved. She's the
perfect inside dog, prefers being inside now. She sleeps on a bed at night and
cuddles on the couch with us. She is still afraid of small children and is
nervous when meeting new people. Some people she just doesn't seem to like at
all. We're still working on her social skills but she's come a long way.
Despite everything she is such a cuddly, sweet, calm natured dog and we love
her so much. Her spirit never broke when with all things considered I would
have expected her to give up a long time ago. Her rough start made her
appreciate things more and not ask for much. She doesn't demand attention and
is sometimes hesitant to come over and ask for it. She's so gentle and
soft-footed. She is intelligent and loving. I hate that she never really got a
puppyhood and because of that she doesn't play with toys, and has no idea how
to fetch or play Frisbee.
We are thankful that we were given the opportunity to welcome this special
into our home and our hearts and hope to give her a much better life than she
could ever imagine.
