Oscar
is my short haired dachshund. I got him when he was only six weeks
old. I was four years old when I got him, I am twelve now. We picked out
Oscar at a little pet store one day. We walked inside and there were two
puppies left. I started to pet the baby dachshund (Oscar). I asked my mom
if we could get him but she no. Later that day my dad was just getting
home from work. When he got out of the car he was carrying a little crate.
I peeked inside and there was the puppy from the pet store! It was the
best day of my life. We went inside trying to think of name. I wanted to
name him Bob (I was only four!). But it turned out that my parents already
had a name picked out (figures)! So we named him Oscar.
Oscar's personality is playful, energetic, loving and loyal. It seems like
he never runs out of energy! One of his favorite things to do outside is
to chase squirrels! But that's not the only thing he loves to do. He loves
to tear the stuffing out of his toys! Our carpet is always covered in
stuffing! He has many stuffed animals. His favorite toy is a little rubber
duck. He runs around with that thing all the time. We play fetch with it a
lot. When he gets tired we'll lie on the couch and I'll brush him and
snuggle him.
I have recently taught Oscar several tricks. He knows the commands sit,
stay and come. He knows the signals for lay down, on your side and roll
over. He has also learned the command UP. He will stand on his hind legs.
It took time to teach him these tricks. He was a little stubborn at first
but I was patient and persistent. In the end all the work paid off.
Oscar is always on alert and ready to protect us. If he sees a snake,
opossum, raccoon or anything he will bark until we come out and get
whatever it is. Oscar does bark a lot, but he's just doing his job. He has
had some close calls before. He has been bitten by a pygmy rattlesnake
before. He was bleeding on his nose and stomach. We took him to the vet;
they said he had to stay overnight. We were very scared, it didn't sound
good. But he got better and is perfectly fine now. Oscar is always so
excited to see my family and me. He is a very special dog to all of us!
