The
saying goes "I rescued him at a shelter..." His story was awful. He and
his siblings were found in a dumpster shortly after birth. The truth is,
though, that he rescued me. Andy picked me. I was looking at the female of his
litter mates-a wiggly fuzzy mess and he just kept sitting there, whined
something at me and gave me this look as if to say you're here for me.
Andy is quite the companion and quite the character. We lived in the dessert
most of his life and the last number of years with my parents, he calls them
Grammy and Pop, and his four legged sister Sadie. He loves them all very
dearly. The move to the Gulf of Texas in July 2010 made him sad and angry for a
few months. He misses them and the rest of my family immensely.
Back to Andy rescuing me. He is very intuitive about how I'm feeling and
whether or not I'm emotionally well. He comforts me routinely when I am down
or upset. He makes me feel secure and safe no matter where we are. He brings
me back to the moment and keeps me grounded. He reminds me that there is true
gentleness, compassion, and unconditional love. All of this and more, Andy
rescues me from the scars of my past that haunt me and reassures me that there
can be solace and peace.
He loves playing at the beach with me, going anywhere in the car, cookies,
treats, and most of all---Bacon. He also loves to greet me with one of his
toothy smiles and whining loudly, "you're home, you're home!!!!!" He's truly
the best buddy I could have ever asked for, The absolute best therapy, and is
certainly loved and thought special by all those who know him and have spent
time with him. He truly deserves to be recognized as the dog of the day. He's
my dog of the day every day and there'll never be another like him in my
lifetime. Thank you Andy for rescuing me.
