Hello,
my puppy's name is Hazel. We just adopted her from the city shelter here
in Houston almost two weeks ago. She actually came home sick. We saw a sniffly
nose about an hour later after adopting her. She was happy and playful for a
couple of days, then her symptoms became worse and she was starting to act
lethargic. We took her to the vet and he diagnosed her with a sinus or respitory
infection. He prescribed her antibiotics and told us to bring her in if she got
worse. The next night she had two seizures. The vet told us it was likely to be
Distemper, which we were afraid of. The mortality rate in puppies is 80%. She
became even weaker and would not eat drink or eat. Luckily, my boyfriend is
jobless and had the time to nurse her back to health. Only about four days later
and she was wagging her tail and drinking water on her own! Now, about six days
later, she is running to us, playing and eating! She still has a nasty nose
(still on antibiotics, just in case of infection) but she's back acting like a
puppy! She seems she will be very smart and not have any side effects from her
sickness. She is very beautiful and I can't wait until she's all grown up! She's
a wonder, we should have named her Grace for being such a lucky survivor. Hazel
will grow up to be a wonderful dog, of that we are sure.
