Tikeya
(pronouced: Ta-ki-ah) is a very special girl, she was been my best
friend since 1998. She came to me loving belly rubs, and she to the end
still loved belly rubs. The most unusual thing about Tikeya was her
"voice." She has often been described as sounding like a "teradactyl
dinosaur!" She had a very load, and high pitched
singing voice,
and she likes to talk to everyone.
Tikeya was always a dog to turn heads. People loved her, and always asked
how old she was and commented on her looks because she was so beautiful!
She was very stubborn when she wanted her own way. It was a tough road
training her because she could be easily distracted, and was not at all
food motivated.
She knew commands like Sit, lay down, round in a circle, crawling, shake a
paw, high fives, speak, but I'd have to say her most interesting Trick was
when I pretended to shoot her "BANG BANG" and she rolled onto her back
(playing dead). Tikeya got along great with other dogs, and was amazing off
leash (a big exception to the husky rule). Tikeya went through it all with
me! There was never a dull moment... which is to be expected with owning
such a tenacious breed of dog.
In early October she had a rough weekend with her bladder. I took her to
the vet and sure enough they found a tumour blocking her urethera, she was
unable to urinate. The tumour couldn't be removed, and to prevent her
further suffering she had to be put down. I was saddened beyond belief,
there are no words to how I feel. She was in my life since I was twelve years
old, moved with me seven times in my adulthood, and she was there since the
beginning. I will always remember my special girl.
