Ziggy
is my very special little boy! In the beginning of 2009, our family
went to Puerto Rico on vacation. While there we discovered the problem of
homeless dogs just wandering the streets. We talked to some people and
visited the foundation called "Save a Sato" which was a Puerto Rican group
dedicated to helping and finding new homes for the homeless dogs. It broke
my heart to see so many of them dying and in need of so much love and care.
I saw Ziggy there, and it was just the way he looked at me that made me
realize I wanted to help. After discussing as a family, we ended up
adopting Ziggy. When we got back home, he came a day later with his escort
volunteer on a safe flight. After he got home with us, we took him straight
to the vet to make sure nothing was wrong, and luckily he wasn't doing too
bad. They told us he was about a year old, and that he was a
Chihuahua/Dachshund mix. We assume his mom was a Long-Haired Chihuahua and
his dad was a Dachshund, or vice versa. I am so happy to have saved this
beautiful, tiny boy and give him a new start at life!
Ziggy is now about three years old and a happy, energetic little handful!
Definitely a big change, considering how shy and jumpy he was when he first
came home. Ziggy has lots of fun around the house annoying his "brother",
our Pit Bull Thunder. They chase each other, play tug of war and run loops
around the sprinkler in the summer. Ziggy now loves meeting new people and
dogs when we go down to the park, and everyone stops to say hi to him. He
loves the snow (in rare times we get it), swimming, fetching, running, and
lazing in the sun. His favorite toy is his rainbow rope toy, which he could
probably play with for hours on end! When he's around, I always have an
audience when baking considering he will always want something! His
favorite treats are his milk bones, he knows over 30 tricks and will do
anything to get his treats. On lazy, hot days Ziggy loves to cuddle on the
couch and watch dog shows on TV. Sometimes he even falls asleep on my head,
silly boy! I just adore him, and I'm very lucky to have him in my life!
