This
is a picture of our dog we rescued last September from the Alton
shelter. She was in a dog pound ready to be put down within and hour or so.
The shelter rescued her, then we got her. She is such a joy to all of us and
a very gentle dog.
If you were to come visit Keona, she would love you to death. She is a very
gentle dog who just wants to be loved and never to be alone. We have a lot
of kids and little ones that come over here and we don't have to worry about
her. She will just love them with joy. She was sleeping behind the couch at
night because the shelter said she felt more secure there. She now sleeps on
the couch a lot and has control over the whole place now. As for games, she
goes out with my husband to run after all the toys he throws out and he has
her trained to bring them back.
The most important training for her was to stay out of my flower beds and
garden. She ate my rose bushes in the winter, and our burning bushes, too.
Initially she chased the birds, and now she lets them be at the feeder. Not
the squirrels, but the birds she is good with. She is part Chow and part
either shepherd or collie. She is such a good part of our family and very
grateful her life was spared. We are glad that they rescued her. She
doesn't do anything spectacular but she was a shelter dog and is a very
special and good dog. Keona is her name and it means God's special gift in
Hawaiian, at least that's what they said. We kept the name, as it fits her so well!
