This
is Sam, she's a thirteen-year-old husky with the cutest personality. I
rescued her ten years ago and she has been my best friend ever since. When
my roommates' cat had kittens she helped clean and take care of them. She
is very friendly and very vocal. She's lost 30 pounds in the last year and
has a lot more energy. Most people cannot believe that she's thirteen.
What makes Sam special is her way with people and other animals. I've met
people who weren't dog people but after meeting Sam they said that if they
ever had a dog they'd want a Sam. She's very friendly and affectionate and
not aggressive at all. She loves to play and her favorite toy is a brand
new tennis ball. When I found her she could sit and stay but I taught her
to lay down, stand back up and shake with both paws. A unique thing about
her is she has one black claw. She has an internal clock that gets her up
at 6:30 a.m on the dot and is very persistent that its time for her to go
to the bathroom and have breakfast.
I found her when she was about three years old wandering the streets and
decided to call the humane society to see if she had a chip. I also put up
flyers around the area and on the internet. Animal control came and picked
her up and took her to the shelter. She had no chip and nobody claimed her.
A week later they called me and said either I come get her or they're
putting her down. Not a tough choice. I immediately picked her up and she's
been a part of the family ever since.
I named her Sam because of a childhood neighbor dog that I was close with.
I would go visit this dog, a black lab, and pet her through her gate. When
I'd stop petting her she'd put her nose through the gate and lift my hand
onto her head. One morning I was laying in bed when my new no-named dog
came in the room, put her nose under my hand and flopped it on her head. So
I named her Sam, and the rest is history!
