Kona
is a dog you have to love. He's crazy but lovable, and at times he can
be a hassle but it's the package deal that comes with a puppy. He's a
little trouble maker and will chew on anything he finds, but when he runs
out of energy he loves to cuddle up next to you and fall asleep. We adopted
Kona from our local animal shelter he was about ten weeks old. He and his
sister were found roaming around near Hayden. We had lost our last dog a
few months before Kona came. Our last dog was such a perfect dog we were
having trouble letting go, but finally after showing my family several
dogs, Kona was the one that pushed them over. We finally got to adopt him
and bring him home August 4th, it was a great day.
Kona is playful and full of energy. He loves to run through the powdery
snow and tall grass and loves other dogs. He hasn't met many other animals
yet, for he is still being trained somewhat. He is extremely smart. Within
the first few weeks we had him, he learned sit, shake, high five, lay down
and stay. About a month after getting adopted, Kona saw his sister again at
a local kickball tournament. They were adorable together and you could tell
he loved her and wanted to protect her, for he treated her in a more gentle
way. He was almost twice her size! He has a little trouble learning not to
jump, and gets a little too playful and nips at times, but it's all in a
loving gesture and he is slowly learning that it's wrong. About a week ago
Kona lost his first tooth, we were all a little surprised and you could
tell he was, too. He hasn't been neutered yet but he has an appointment
soon.
He's a sporty dog, he loves to play catch and frisbee, play with toys,
loves soccer balls and occasionally likes to try and step on a skateboard.
At four months old he hiked The Devil's Causeway, stopping only when the
family needed a break. He is extremely fast and can leap very far, though
despite all his athleticism it took him a long while to get used being in
any water. Now he loves it. He has adorable eyes and has highlights on his
back, when he is alarmed his hair spikes in a perfect ridge from the middle
of his neck to his tail almost like a Ridgeback. We think he could be a
mix, though we are unsure, he definitely is an Anatolian, though. He is
going to become a very big boy being most likely between 27-30 inches in
height and 100-140 pounds it all depends on whether he is truly purebred or
has some mix. He is growing so quickly, almost too fast to keep up! He
won't be full grown till between one and two years old so we still have a long
while to see how big he end sup. Because our last dog was so perfect, Kona
has some very high expectations to reach. Though right now he is not
matching those expectations hopefully one day he will be as great as our
last dog. But no matter what happens, we will always love him.
