Leo, the Dog of the Day
Name: Leo
Age: Deceased, Seven years old
Gender: Male Breed: Pomeranian
Home: Providence, Rhode Island, USA

Leo came into my life on June 10, 2006. I will never forget that day. My friend had called me and told me that one of our neighbors was giving away a small dog because they couldn't handle taking care of him and another dog that they already had. My mom was very reluctant at first, despite the fact that I had been begging her for years for a dog to call my own. After a few minutes of begging I had convinced her to go take a look, but there was no guarantee that we would be bringing him home, we were "just going to go see." When we got there, Leo, known as "Fluffy" at the time, was running around chasing a little Maltese all over the yard. He didn't pay any attention to me or my mom, but I fell in love with his furry self immediately. My mom agreed to let me take him home, and from that day on Leo and I became inseparable.

Leo passed away on January 14, 2012 due to a car accident. It breaks my heart just writing this, but I just have to share with the world what a wonderful dog he was. Leo was much more than a dog for me, he was my best friend, my baby, my diary when I needed someone to talk to, my teddy bear when I needed to cuddle on those cold winter days, my walking partner when I needed to get away from everyone for a bit, my everything. When he came into my life I was only twelve, I am eighteen now and he was there for me as I went through some of the most difficult times of my life, but also for some of the most memorable. He was there for me when I felt like no one else was and for that I will be eternally grateful. He taught me what the true meaning of love, kindness, and friendship is. I miss him and there isn't one day that I don't think about those hot summer days laying under the trees on the hammock, or running around together at the park just having fun. Rest in Peace, Leo, thank you for allowing me to have you in my life.
