I
would like you all to meet Fiona, my very special girl. This beautiful
girl began the first few months of her life stuck in a shelter in Ohio.
There was such a lack of interest in the "dirty, useless stray" puppy that
she was thought to be a boy and was named Toby. When she was about six
months old she got stuck with a family that, after having her for about two
days, found her to not be worth it and kept her locked up in a horse barn
nearly all day. When one of their neighbors found out that they had been
hiding her away like that, she got taken back to the shelter and stayed
there for almost a whole other month. But, on the day me and my family just
happened to be visiting family in Ohio, we stopped by the shelter and I just
fell in love with the adorable, yet skinny, puppy shying away in the corner.
And that day she came home with my family for a fresh and wonderful start.
Fiona has now been with us for about three or so years and she is a gift
from heaven above. She turned four on Valentine's Day, she's our little
valentine! She got a new Frisbee toy and a dog-friendly birthday cupcake.
She's a great listener, she will sit with me on the couch and I can pour my
heart out to her about anything that's on my mind. She was especially there
for me back in October when my grandma passed away, when i felt so alone and
helpless she could really lift my spirits. She's also a quick learner, I
could introduce a trick to her and she could learn it in less than a week!
She knows many, many tricks like sit, shake, dance, roll over, and
"hi-five". She's a very playful and energetic dog, sometimes other people,
including us, describe as a "hyper monkey in a dog costume". She will splash
around in her little pink pool, drink from the sprinkler, and whenever she
plays with her rope toy it just looks like a blur of teeth and flapping ears
because of how wildly she shakes it around!
She also always tries to "cute" her way into getting food. When we sit
around having dinner she always stand there with her puppy-dog face until
someone tells her to go lay down. In the summer when I have a Popsicle, or
if I come home from school with a Popsicle, she always just stares at me
until I let her have a lick. And, since we have bowls of apples and bananas
on the kitchen tables, she tries stealing some of those, but usually gets
caught. She used to steal grapes and hide them away, so we got rid of those
on the table since they really aren't good for dogs. She's also a little
suck, so whenever I start scratching behind her ears and petting her, she
automatically rolls over and makes me rub her belly. She loves getting
rubbed on the underside of her muzzle, and it makes her start shaking her
left hind leg.
She's my little angel. Someone else's unwanted "problem" turned out to be my
most amazing treasure! I don't know what I would do without her, I really don't.
