This
is Teeny, she is female miniature black and tan dachshund. She has the
smooth coat. Teeny is started to get a gray muzzle, but she runs around
like a young dog. We have had her for six years, she was given to us when
her owners moved to Hawaii. She loves living on our farm near Pittsburg
Kansas, she is bred to be a mouser and just the other night she caught one
in the barn.
Teeny likes to bark, but I guess her heritage is "hound" so we understand
why she barks at us when we come home. I got her microchipped, I was afraid
if she had a collar on, she might snag it on a root if she happens to find
a muskrat hole. We have a "pit" which is short for strip pit, where the
land was dug out for coal many years ago, now the water has been in it for
a long time and we have fish and frogs and all kinds of aquatic life living
in it. She never swims in it, but Teeny likes to try and catch frogs, and
she got a bullfrog earlier this summer that she brought closer to the
house. Thanks, Teeny!
It has been one year since poor Teeny was trampled by one of the horses,
she had to be rushed to the vet after hours, and they did surgery on her
the following day. The vet had to repair the muscle that tore from her
diaphragm. She made a quick recovery, for which we are extremely grateful.
We definitely keep her out of the horses way, and I noticed that she will
bark at them from the safety of the fence.
Teeny is very gentle and loves to be petted, she is a very good dog for my
6 year old son to lead around on a leash. We had taken Teeny to a dog show
in town, it was a small contest that the local cheerleaders put on for a
fundraiser. Teeny wore a yellow bandana around her neck, and she was very
well behaved. Seems like everyone recognizes a "weiner dog!" She didn't win
any of the prizes, but it was just fun to take her in and show her off. I
noticed she was using her powerful nose to hone in all the hotdog buns/food
that people dropped on the ground, she sure does use her scent tracking
skills! Teeny likes to lick her kong toy stuffed with a bit of peanut
butter. One odd thing she does, she seems to dig for grubs in the yard and
eat them. Reminded us of Timon and Pumba from the Lion King movie! The vet
just said some dogs like strange things... HA! She enjoys riding in the
car, sometimes she goes along with us into town to run errands. We think
Teeny is a good addition to our family, we are blessed that she came into
our lives.
