Meet
JonBoy! He's four years old and getting a little gray in the face, but
he is the biggest puppy at heart and that is why I call him "My Bupster."
JonBoy here is my #1 Mutt and has been since he stole my heart (even if he
was covered with fleas and ticks!) the summer after my high school
graduation in 2007. He was my graduation gift to myself (even if he was
free!) and I couldn't have done a better job. Of course when I got him the
deal with my Diddy was, "where ever you go, the dog goes..." and so he did!
He became my riding buddy, the party favorite, and my best friend!
Having a puppy that was my responsibility for the first time came
along with a few challenges like: training him to go outside, training him
to not chew cords in half, training him to not eat my shoes, and whatever
else a puppy can get in to. Being that JonBoy has Lab in him should justify
for the crazy behavior. But I wouldn't trade my "bup" for anything in the
world. But to give him a little credit, he does know how to sit, lay,
shake, get up, and look like a corndog with four legs and a tail!
He's come a long way from that rambunctious guy he used to be. Now he likes
to spend hours snoring laying behind the woodstove, in his bed (which is my
bed), or in his favorite recliner (that he took over) on the front porch.
His best friends include: My Diddy (who claims he doesn't like him, we all
know that's a lie), the beagle across the road, and the UPS lady (who stops
every time she comes down our road, keep in mind she isn't stopping by our
house because we have a package, lets JonBoy run in one door, he grabs his
treat, and out the other he goes), and of course his people parents... But
come to think of it, he loves everyone, other than the neighbor across the
road and the guy who takes an occasional walk past the house every now and
then.
During the Fall of 2010 his dad and I took him to the beach for the first
time and he loved it, everything but the water! J He behaved so well and
during that time I really found out how much he loved me. Typically he is
always Daddy this, Daddy that, but this time he wanted to be up under his
mama! It made me so happy!
So as you can see, JonBoy may not be some fancy named breed and he sure
didn't cost a lot (other than the food he always thinks he's supposed to
have anytime I walk in the door), but he's my Mutt, with the best
personality that I've ever seen in a dog and he means a whole lot to me!
And I think his story could show others how good of a companion a dog
really can be!
