Jasper
is very special! He helped me stay awake when I had a very bad
concussion, even the doctors say I'm very lucky I didn't die because it
was severe. The most important thing that makes him even more special,
though, is he almost had to get put down in March from a very terrible
case of pneumonia and a mysterious lesion in his left lung. They gave me two
options; either to try to use these two antibiotics, or to put him down. He
didn't eat for a week straight and was constantly throwing up with no
control of his bladder, and he barely moved. After three months of constant
treatment of the pills, it worked. He was starting to eat again, and was
getting more energy and was able to control his bladder. By the middle of
July he had the vet's okay to let him slowly start to be a normal dog,
like go for slow walks and play with his sisters.
After two weeks of building up his endurance, he was back to his old self!
He was doing agility (his favorite!) and playing frisbee and running with
his doggy friends! He is also very special because he lives to learn and
love to perform tricks for me and everyone! He knows well over 120 tricks
and commands but the two that stand out the most are painting on a canvas
with a brush with a special handle I made myself, and getting a water from
the fridge, opening and closing the fridge doors himself. He knows a lot
of other challenging tricks but those are the two that seems that people
love the most! (:
Some other tricks are opening his kennel door, going in, and then closing
the door while he is inside of it. Another he knows how to climb on trees
on command, He also knows telling him "Put em' up!" (He does a begging
position) and then I yell out "BANG!" and he falls to the ground. You can
also throw toys and food at him and he will not budge until you say "Wake
up!" He knows how to leg and back vault and to catch a frisbee in the air.
A cute trick he does is, I'll tell my other dog to sit next to him, and I
say "Best friends!", and then Jasper will put his leg around the other
dogs shoulder. He also knows how to give kisses and hugs on command. He
does many different tricks including weaving through my legs, jumping over
them, walking backwards around me then through my legs. Also he is
learning how to do a hand stand. He knows how to do a handstand off the
wall or any surface, but we're trying to get him to do it independently!
Jasper loves to wrestle and chase with his dog friends, but not every dog.
He has been attacked by some dogs. So now he is fear aggressive towards strange dogs.
He is very affectionate, a lot of people say his the cuddliest Border
Collie they have ever met and he is always by my side, from the first day
I got him!
