When
my husband and I decided our house was not a home without a furry
companion, we decided to look into a rescue dog, as so many need good
homes. We talked about it from time to time, but when my stepdaughter
Laura got wind of us thinking about adding a four-legged member to our
household, she was on a mission. She had gotten her special guy Bo from a
shelter in Stratford Connecticut, and he was a gem, so naturally, that was
where she started. She found a picture of "Relic" (the shelter had named
him), an American Bulldog and my husband thought he was just the coolest looking guy.
We found out they were having an adoption fair that very Saturday so we
drove down to meet him. We found out that the poor guy had just been tied
up to a tree and left, no food, no water. He was bigger than we thought,
all muscle and when the woman brought him out to meet us, we thought for
sure he was just too much dog for us. We went for a walk and after he
calmed a little he was very nice, but my husband thought he would be too
much for us to handle. We walked away, but I kept thinking about him.
Finally Tuesday, I asked him what he was thinking about and he told me he
was thinking about the dog ... so was I.
I called the shelter the next day, and he was still available so we went
down that night and brought home "Boomer". Somehow, we just did not see
this guy as Relic. He was perfect the whole way home, slept on his new bed
the whole night and fit in with us immediately. Unfortunately, in the
beginning he had some separation issues and after trashing a couple doors,
8 screens, one window and countless curtains, we finally gained his trust
and he realized we would always come back home for him. He has been the
light of our lives and keeps us laughing all the time!! He loves his
covers at night, his toys and our neighbors Doberman named Micah who is
his best doggie pal, but most of all he loves to snuggle. He thinks he
weighs in at ten pounds, so he hauls his 75-pound body into our laps on a
regular basis. Bets of all, he loves hugs. If you wrap both arms around
him, he just melts right into you. This is the mushiest dog of all time
and we love him so very much!!
