Salazar, the Dog of the Day
Name: Salazar
Age: Eleven months old
Gender: Male Breed: Great Dane
Home: Linden, North Carolina, USA

Salazar (Salazar Loki when he's in trouble) is a male blue harlequin (merlequin) purebred Euro Great Dane. He came from a Ft. Bragg soldier who was moving and couldn't take him with. When I first got him at seven months of age, his name was Sebastian. He didn't know his name, no manners, untrained, and needed some grooming, but otherwise healthy and happy. At seven months he weighed 110 pound. While I was searching for a great dane, his owner had called me, seeing my post on Craigslist, asking if I was interested in him. When I said yes, but needed a few weeks to get up the money for his "rehome fee", the man went to someone else and I thought I had lost the chance of getting Salazar. A few weeks later, I came across a new post with the same Great Dane saying he needed a home before December. From October until November 21st-ish, I sold and worked my butt off until I had the money for Salazar and finally got my dream dog. Now, he knows the "sit" command. Any one with a Dane will tell you, training them when they are small and young is the best you can do. Training with they weigh more than you do is a challenge, but Salazar is doing fairly well, though he can be quite stubborn at times. (What dog isn't?)

At his old home, his best friend was a female blue Doberman Pinscher. Each time he sees any Doberman in public, he automatically wants to play and be friends. Smaller dogs, like tea cups, and toy dogs, etc, he's not too fond of and often shies away from them. At his current home, his best friend is a female Lab/Pug mix. Once I get my own place, I'm going to get him another Doberman friend.

His favorite snacks include sweet potatoes, carrots, and plain yogurt. Nicknames include "Sal", "horse", and "gigantor". Coincidentally, he and I both have the same birthday in March, which I had no clue about until I looked at his vet papers when I first got him. Now he is an eleven-month-old giant of a dog who loves playing, sleeping, and sitting on people, and is still growing.

Here is a video of him being lazy.
