This
is Raegan Hope (Rae for short). She is a Jackabee - that is, a Jack
Russell/Beagle mix. Rae was in the first litter of puppies I have ever
fostered. There were five pups and a mama. Being Jackabees, it makes them a
"designer breed" and two of the pups are blue (the grey color). Puppy mills
breed Jacks with blue Beagles for the most money. When we got the group at twelve
days old, I immediately fell head over heels in love with that little black
and brown baby. I knew when I saw her she was going to be mine.
During this time, she must have had the same connection. Instead of playing
with siblings or suckling Amora (her mama), Rae would much rather lay with
me. She spent hours among hours just laying on my chest, or trotting around
under my feet or launching into the chair I was sitting in to love me.
She is honestly the first pet I have ever had that type of connection with.
It's literally like falling in love for the first time. Euphoria. She's my
baby. My sweet, loving, silly, amazing baby. <3
She is special to me for the reasons above and so much more. She is going to
be my emergency alert pup soon (panic attacks and such) and she is my
god-given solace and stress release.
A lot happened to us and we lost our home for a time. So she and Harper had
to go live with my fiancee's mom for a while. They used to know sit, no, get
it, leave it and stay. Now they just pay attention to "no" and stay. So you
know it is not just human grandchildren that get spoiled by their
grandparents! She doesn't play games often. She would much rather lay in my
lap. She is 110% affectionate but still quite the little independent
individual. She can do things on her own but would much rather be with me.
To be trained as my emergency medical alert dog, she will be put through a
few weeks of close training- from both of us. She will learn basic commands
"stay, go, no," etc. (she knows some) and she will learn to hone in on a
panic attack(or anything else). (Since I live with someone, she will be
rewarded for comforting me.)
It won't be hard at all to train her because she naturally adapts to my
emotions and completely understands. She's either right up in my face or
laying by my side- whichever I need at the moment. She is very calming. Calm.
She's a very loyal, intelligent pup. She sees a lot, and understands more
than some people give her credit for. She has this derpy face, and
personality, but she can see into your heart. And I love that. She is mine. I
love her. <3
