Maizy Marie, the Dog of the Day
Name: Maizy Marie
Age: Two years old
Gender: Female Breed: Dog
Home: California, USA

We have only had Maizy for a little more than a month and a half. We adopted her from a rescue group who got her from the pound. She was an owner surrender but we don't know why, unless it has anything to do with her potty training! We are not really sure what breed of dog she is but we know she is a mutt of some kind. My guess is that she is a Yorkie Maltese mix. She has a Yorkie look to her and she feels like a Maltese... she also gets tear stains like the Maltese does.

When we first got her she was super skittish and wouldn't come up to anyone. She also didn't like our other two dogs Ravin and Honey. But she only weighs five pounds (2.2 kg), so how could you blame her. Maizy was supposed to be a family dog but she bonded with my mom right away (my mom laughs and says she didn't want a dog for herself just for the family). Maizy now gets along with every human and animal in the family. She's wary of strangers though but most dogs are. We think Maizy must have been an old ladies dog and the old lady passed away and so the family didn't know what to do with her. When she arrived at the pound her coat was really long and matted. Maizy doesn't like to play with toys or other dogs and doesn't really know how to play with people either. We are trying to get her to learn about how much fun it can be to be a dog.

Something she does like is going for car rides with my mom. As I am writing this my mom went to go pick up my little brother from school and guess who had to go with her? Maizy also sleeps with my mom which annoys my dad but at least she is just a little thing. Everyone in the family loves her and her silly little personality. We are happy that we adopted her and we are confidant she will continue to come out of her shell. Please remember if you are looking to add a dog to your family it's always better to rescue than to buy ... especially to buy from a pet store. If you absolutely have to have a purebred puppy make sure you get it from a responsible breeder that's registered, and lets you meet the mother.
