Ella
was rescued from the euthanization list in 2002. I adopted her that
year. She supposedly was born in 1999, so I tell people she is fifteen and
holding... When I got her she was terrified and had obviously never been in a
house before. My other dog at the time was ten years old and I wanted to do
something to perk him up, so home she came.
Ella met him and immediately cuddled up to him. She was so sweet to him, I
just fell in love with her. She was housebroken within 24 hours, and wouldn't
get on any furniture except the bed, even though I never restricted her.
Within three days she was playing with my cat. After a week she was playing with
my dog, who, by the way, was blind from diabetes.
Now Ella is living the retired life and sleeping on pillows on the floor. She
unfortunately lost her eyes to tick fever one at a time over the years and
has been deaf for the last four years. She is friends with her cat brothers, but
has trouble playing with them since she can no longer see. She is the
smartest, sweetest dog I have ever known and has no idea she can't see or
hear. These days I'm happy for all the time I have with her.
