Napoleon, the Dog of the Day
Name: Napoleon
Age: Eight years old
Gender: Male Breed: Puli
Home: San Francisco, California, USA

We adopted Napoleon from another family about a year ago (the family was moving out of the country and couldn't bring him with). Since we adopted him, he's proven himself to be one of the smartest, calmest dogs I've ever met. Pulik are often known for barking a lot, but Napoleon barely lets out a peep (only when he's very excited because we're about to play his favorite game - fetch). He also loves people, rubbing his face on the leg of almost every new person he meets as a greeting.

Aside from fetch, he knows dozens of tricks. He's got the basics down: sit, shake, high five, turn around, and roll over. But he also knows some advanced tricks. For example, when it's time for a walk, he'll go and fetch his own leash and bring it to us. Similarly, if the mail is sitting on the bench near the front door and we are at the table, we can ask him to bring it to us and he will (only getting a minimal amount of slobber on it in the process). Also, when he's done eating or drinking water, he'll go fetch a nearby towel and bring it to us so that we can wipe the extra food and water off his face. Even more impressively, he also understands the concept of "shoes", so if we tell him to go and fetch a shoe, he will bring one of the shoes sitting near the front door. (We are still working on getting him to bring the matching pair).

Like most adult Pulik, Napoleon's hair forms naturally into dreadlock-like cords, which hang almost all the way to the ground. Generally they hang over his face as well (don't worry, he has great vision and the cords don't block his eyesight) but we sometimes tie his hair back just to see those big brown eyes. Aside from giving him a very cute appearance, the cords make for quite a sight when he runs across the field chasing a ball or jumps over a hurdle or through a hula hoop. We never get tired of seeing his huge smile as he runs around one of the dog parks in San Francisco.

We're really happy we were able to add Napoleon to our family and thank the previous owners for doing such a great job raising him.
