Ponzo loves the beach! He jumps straight up in the
air every time as we approach the "dog beach." He swims and catches
sticks, balls (sometimes a few at a time), and frisbees always with a
smile. He enjoys a few victory laps around the beach after catching his
toys. He is always good for digging holes, rolling in the sand nose
first and sitting his wet dog self right on your beach blanket. We love
him for that! Bonzo is also a working dog, he watches over his dad's
shop every day at work. He loves a few pats and especially treats ...
did anyone say cheese?! He can hear the sound of unwrapping cheese from
miles away.
Most of all he is a sweet heart who loves kisses, and kissing, snuggling, and being with his family. He tolerates his feline companion, but won't let kitty get all the attention. Whenever I see Bonzo's smiling & loving face, I feel happy and fortunate that he is in my life, to make it better one doggy kiss at a time!
Bonzo is a tall golden, so he once got bloat while at a kennel over a holiday while we were away. He almost passed due to this horrible affliction that large, deep-chested dogs can get when their stomach flips inside their body. This usually occurs after eating a lot and then playing, the food expands in the stomach causing it to flip and cut off circulation on both ends of the stomach. Luckily we caught this early with Bonzo (right after picking him up from the kennel). Bonzo was cut stem to stern in order to remove stomach contents and flip the stomach back over, he survived but it was a very long process.
Please, if you have a large doggy learn from this that never feed your dog and then run or play. Give at least a few hours for the food to digest! Bloat has a high mortality rate if not caught early, and we were very lucky, plus we have an amazing surgeon vet! With that message, Bonzo gives everyone a smile and a kiss, and never give up because a treat is always out there to enjoy!
