My boy Jobby (officially Prince Jobsite) is a senior Chesapeake Bay Retriever who has slowed drastically in the last year. Like most Chessies, swimming is one of his favorite things to do in the world. He loves all water except bath water! A few weeks ago, I took my boy to go swimming in our neighbor's pool. This ordinary activity and typical day turned into one of my most touching moments. For the first time ever, Jobby wasn't feeling very well and to my dismay, he did not want to get into the water. I was shocked. Tears filled my eyes and I could not swallow the lump that formed in my throat from fear and sorrow that this, his favorite thing to do come rain or shine, may have been taken from him by Father Time.
Our eyes met and I could not hide my sorrow. Jobby with obvious intent, eased himself down three steps into the pool water, swam one length of the pool and back, climbed carefully out, walked straight to his towel and sat down. Unquestionably, knowingly, he did swam this lap to ease my pain.
My heart overflowed with love as I dried him. "Thank you boy, I love you to the moon."
