Xanto, the Dog of the Day
Name: Xanto
Age: Eleven years old
Gender: Male Breed: German Shepherd Dog
Home: Morgan County, Alabama, USA

Hello, my name is Kristen Garrett, and I am Xanto's K-9 Handler. He has served beside me, for the Morgan County Sheriff's Office for almost eight years now. Xanto has been a great partner, friend, protector, and loving family member. He has worked alongside me every day, and has always been there to protect me and all the people that we serve from danger and harm.

Now it's my turn to do the same for him.

Xanto is eleven years of age, which is an old age for the work he does daily. He served three years in the Military K-9 program before being adopted by me in 2007.

Xanto has been available to not only serve and protect the citizens of Morgan County, such as, Decatur PD, Somerville PD, Hartselle PD, Falkville PD, AL State Troopers, and AL Game and Fish. But also to other jurisdictions needing the assistance of a Police K-9, such as, Cullman PD, Cullman Co SO, Arab PD, Marshall Co, Moulton PD, Lawrence Co SO, Winston Co SO, Limestone Co SO, and the U.S. Marshalls.

In 2010 Xanto received the prestigious honor of becoming the first Police K-9 to ever be inducted into the Alabama Animal Hall of Fame by the Alabama Veterinary Medical Association.

In order for us to be able to retire Xanto, we need your help to raise enough money to replace him. We want NO LAPSE in the service and protection that these K-9's provide on a daily basis.

Xanto deserves to live out the remainder of his days, living at home with the family he loves, and enjoying a full, happy and relaxed life.

Here's a little poem I wrote for my old man "Z."

"It's time"

He spent three years at Lackland Air Force Base,
and eight years serving and protecting this great place.
In 2007 our tour together began.
I'm proud to call him my partner, protector, and friend.
We've logged many hours tracking, searching and sniffing,
In woods, creeks, and fields for those that went missing.
There were those that were evil, or had evil to hide.
He's always the first in without questioning "Why?"
He has given it his all, and went far and above.
To protect everything you have and all that you love.
Now it's time that he rest and let the next generation
Pick up his fight, without hesitation.
Morgan county we ask for even a dime.
For your protector is aging, I know that "It's time."

Thank you all. I couldn't do this without my family and friends support!
